A near-fine first printing copy of Plath's sole novel, published by Harper & Row in 1971, eight years after the first UK Heinemann printing. This is the true first US edition, not the book club edition, or a later printing. 'First U.S. Edition' printed on the copyright page. Clean purple quarter cloth boards, with title, author and publisher still bright on spine. Lightly sunned and pushed spine foot. Clean text block, bar one small mark to the fore-edge. Light rubbing to the bottom edges and corners. Internally very clean, with no ownership name. Light offsetting to the endpapers, as is quite common with these Harper & Row endpapers. Pages are very clean and unmarked. The dust jacket is not price-clipped, with $6.95 to the top of the left in-flap. One-inch closed edge tear to the upper panel, fixed to the verso with clear tape. Small nick to the top of the spine. Small booksellers price sticker to the top corner of the lower panel. Otherwise whole and in near fine condition.
