Laid in at front are two different sized and designed programs from the same two week run Oct 16-28, 1922 at the Philadelphia Metroploitan Opera House. Both programs light worn, include cast, synopsis, details and photos along with local ads. Book is illustrated with tissue guarded color plates from art by Foster and with musical notation and drawings. Yellow paper over boards slightly rubbed through at corner tips; hinges a little tender. VG-.

The Beggar's Opera introduced the genre of 'ballad opera', the forerunner to the modern musical, and was well received when it was first staged at Lincoln's Inn Fields in 1728.

Laid-in, the original Programme of the play presented at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith on June 5th, 1930 at 8.15. Fraser died in 1924 at the age of thirty-one at the height of a brilliant career. Tiny owner inscription pastedown front endpaper. Front cover slightly abraded. Orig. black cloth, front cover and spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Very good.

A limited edition of 430 copies were printed on hand-made paper of which 350 were for sale in the United Kingdom, 50 for sale in the United States of America and 30 were for gifts. This specific book was number 143. The book is in very good condition given its a hundred years old. Normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. The black board corners are slightly worn as are the ends of the spine, please see photos. All eight coloured plates are intact, along with their tissue guard papers. 93 pages all intact, all pages, text and illustrations are in really good, clean readable order. Printed in Great Britain by Richard Clay & Sons Limited, Bungay, Suffolk. What a lovely book, which in my humble opinion should be cherished for future generations, the perfect book for all music and opera lovers.
