Blue and white decorated boards, gilt-lettered blue cloth spine, slight rub by top fr. spine otherwise clean and unworn. 59 pp.; small sig. top fr. end-paper, very faint tanning to end-gutter regions off-set from jacket wraparounds, otherwise clean, tight and unmarked. As a Japanese prisoner of war, the author became close friends with another prisoner and this is primarily a quite moving account of this friend's relationship with the effective camp commandant. Hara, a brutal but fascinating man, and his reconciliation with him before his execution for war-crimes. In retrospect it reads as somewhat racist but is an insightful and generous story.
