Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Slightly oversized hardcover. Brown cloth boards with gold lettering on the cover and (much faded) spine. Corners bumped, foot of spine scuffed and cloth of front hinge beginning to fray. Binding good and tight. 134 pages + full complement of plates. There is a slight blush of foxing here and there. The plates show detailed, measured drawings for construction. This pre-Civil War construction handbook seems to be the only 19th century book to use the phrase Balloon Frames in its title. It was not a complementary term when it was first introduced, though it is now almost universally practiced. It requires 2x4 studs and (usually) exterior scaffold, to build quickly and cheaply. A scarce title. No date on the title page. Copyright page is dated 1857 but preface is dated 1858.…
