Die Autorin beschäftigte sich u. a. damit, wie internationale Diskurse zu Frauenrechten die Wahrnehmung der Situation arabischer Frauen verzerren und Stereotypen füttern. Um ihre Argumente nachvollziehbar zu machen, werde ich zuerst auf den von ihr untersuchten Arab Human Development Report eingehen und danach relevante Details über Lila Abu-Lughods Person kurz vorstellen. Danach folgt der wesentliche Teil meiner Arbeit, in dem ich Abu-Lughods Kritikpunkte erläutere und versuche, mit anderen Quellen abzugleichen. Dazu habe ich mich weiterer Literatur über die Demokratisierung im Nahen Osten und über arabische und muslimische Frauen bedient. Ziel ist es, im Abschlussteil der Arbeit ein Fazit ziehen zu können, welche Probleme sich bei der Einschätzung der Frauenrechtslage arabischer Staaten ergeben, die in der weiteren Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema beachtet werden müssen. In den letzten Jahrzehnten wurden Frauenrechte von viele Initiativen und politischen Bewegungen erfolgreich als Teil der universellen Menschenrechte anerkannt. Doch die Bemühungen um die Verwirklichung von Frauenrechten lassen sich kontrovers diskutieren, besonders, wenn die Durchsetzung in anderen Ländern durch westliche Interessengruppen nicht auf die Bedürfnisse vor Ort abgestimmt ist und imperialistische und eurozentristische Ansichten transportiert werden.…
