Hardcover. Zustand: New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first and only printing. Signed in black ink on the title page by Hernandez. Hardcover. Fine gray linen cloth, with title blind-stamped on spine, with photographically illustrated dust jacket. Photographs by Anthony Hernandez. Introduction by M. G. Lord. 80 pp., with 45 four-color plates, beautifully printed on fine matte art paper. 12-1/2 x 12-1/4 inches. This first edition was limited to 1000 copies. New in publisher's shrink-wrap (slit open for signature). From the publisher: "The Los Angeles River is shaped by Southern California's arid climate. During the dry months, from June to October, it is little more than a rivulet, meandering torpidly through miles of concrete flood-control. But between November and May, when fierce rains strike, it rises up, swelling against its man-made boundaries, fed by storm drains that conduct waste water to the sea. From January 2003 to May 2004, photographer Anthony Hernandez walked the basin of the Los Angeles River, recording what he saw -- which, as the book's title implies, was more or less Everything. For Hernandez, to explore the river was to explore his own past. As a boy growing up in Boyle Heights, a largely Latino neighborhood in East Los Angeles, he played in the concrete basin, or as he puts it, made "mischief," exploding railroad flares in its tunnel-like storm drains, and smashing bottles against its walls. Significantly, Hernandez does not stage his photographs; he records what he finds. In the river, this mostly means items left by homeless people (who camp there in the warmer weather) or objects lost down far-away storm drains. Everything is printed in a first edition of 1,000 copies. Introduction by M. G. Lord." Signed by Author.

Fotografie
Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Since the early 1970s, when he hit the streets of Los Angeles with a 35mm camera and the basic technical knowledge he had acquired in darkroom classes at East Los Angeles College, photographer Anthony Hernandez has consistently challenged himself by adopting new formats and subject matter. Moving from black-and-white to colour, from 35mm to large-format cameras and from the human figure to landscapes to abstracted detail, Hernandez has produced a varied body of work united by its arresting formal beauty and subtle engagement with social issues. At first largely unaware of the formal traditions of the medium, Hernandez developed a style of street photography uniquely attuned to the desolate beauty and sprawling expanses of L.A. Published to accompany the photographer's first retrospective, Anthony Hernandez offers a comprehensive introduction to Hernandez's career of more than forty years, including many photographs that have never before been exhibited or published. The catalogue fully represents the range and breadth of Hernandez's work, with an extensive plate section sequenced in collaboration with the photographer.
