Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -This is the proceedings of the 11th edition of the Algebraic Methodology and Software Technology (AMAST) conference series. The rst conference was held in the USA in 1989, and since then AMAST conferences have been held on (or near) ve di erent continents and have been hosted by many of the most prominent people and organizations in the eld. The AMAST initiative has always sought to have practical e ects by dev- oping the science of software and basing it on a rm mathematical foundation. AMAST hasinterpretedsoftwaretechnologybroadly, andhas, for example, held AMAST workshops in areas as diverse as real-time systems and (natural) l- guage processing. Similarly, algebraic methodology is interpreted broadly and includes abstract algebra, category theory, logic, and a range of other ma- ematical subdisciplines. The truly distinguishing feature of AMAST is that it seeks rigorous mathematical developments, but always strives to link them to real technological applications. Our meetings frequently include industry-based participants and are a rare opportunity for mathematicians and mathema- callymindedacademicstointeracttechnicallywithindustry-basedtechnologists. Over the years AMAST has included industrial participants from organizations specializing in safety-critical (including medical) systems, transport (including aerospace), and security-critical systems, amongst others.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 404 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Algebraic Methodology and Software Technology, AMAST 2008, held in Urbana, IL, USA, in July 2008. The 28 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 58 submissions. Among the topics covered are all current issues in formal methods related to algebraic and logical foundations, software technology, and to programming methodology including concurrent and reactive systems, evolutionary software/adaptive systems, logic and functional programming, object paradigms, constraint programming and concurrency, program verification and transformation, programming calculi, specification languages and tools, formal specification and development case studies, logic, category theory, relation algebra, computational algebra, algebraic foundations for languages and systems, coinduction, theorem proving and logical frameworks for reasoning, logics of programs, as well as algebra and coalgebra.
Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The goal of the AMAST conferences is to foster algebraic methodology as a foundation for software technology, and to show that this can lead to practical mathematical alternatives to the ad-hoc approaches commonly used in software engineering and development. The first two AMAST conferences, held in May 1989 and May 1991 at the University of Iowa, were well received and encouraged the regular organization of further AMAST conferences on a biennial schedule. The third Conference on Algebraic Methodology and Software Technology was held in the campus of the University of Twente, The Netherlands, during the first week of Summer 1993. Nearly a hundred people from all continents attended the conference. The largest interest received by the AMAST conference among the professionals extended to include the administration organizations as well. AMAST'93 was opened by the Rector of the University of Twente, followed by the Local Chairman. Their opening addresses open this proceedings, too. The proceedings contains 8 invited papers and 32 selected communica tions. The selection was very strict, for 121 submissions were received.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This volume contains the proceedings of AMAST 2002, the 9th International Conference on Algebraic Methodology and Software Technology, held during September 9-13, 2002, in Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, R eunion Island, France. The major goal of the AMAST conferences is to promote research that may lead to setting software technology on a rm mathematical basis. This goal is achieved through a large international cooperation with contributions from both academia and industry. Developing a software technology on a mathematical basis p- duces software that is: (a) correct, and the correctness can be proved mathem- ically, (b) safe, so that it can be used in the implementation of critical systems, (c) portable, i. e. , independent of computing platforms and language generations, (d) evolutionary, i. e. , it is self-adaptable and evolves with the problem domain. All previous AMAST conferences, which were held in Iowa City (1989, 1991), Twente (1993), Montreal (1995), Munich (1996), Sydney (1997), Manaus (1999), and Iowa City (2000), made contributions to the AMAST goals by reporting and disseminating academic and industrial achievements within the AMAST area of interest. During these meetings, AMAST attracted an international following among researchers and practitioners interested in software technology, progr- ming methodology, and their algebraic, and logical foundations.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - AMAST's goal is to advance awareness of algebraic and logical methodology as part of the fundamental basis of software technology. Ten years and seven conferences after the start of the AMAST movement, I believe we are attaining this. The movement has propagated throughout the world, assembling many enthusiastic specialists who have participated not only in the conferences, which are now annual, but also in the innumerable other activities that AMAST promotes and supports. We are now facing the Seventh International Conference on Algebraic Methodology and Software Technology (AMAST'98). The previous meetings were held in Iowa City, USA (1989 and 1991), in Enschede, The Netherlands (1993), in Montreal, Canada (1995), in Munich, Germany (1996), and in Sydney, Australia (1997). This time it is Brazil's turn, in a very special part of this colorful country - Amazonia. Thus, 'if we have done more it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.' The effort started by Teodor Rus, Arthur Fleck, and William A. Kirk at AMAST'89 was consolidated in AMAST'91 by Teodor Rus, Maurice Nivat, Charles Rattray, and Giuseppe Scollo. Then came modular construction of the building, wonderfully carried out by Giuseppe Scollo, Vangalur Alagar, Martin Wirsing, and Michael Johnson, as Program Chairs of the AMAST conferences held between 1993 and 1997.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This volume contains the proceedings of AMAST 2004, the 10th International Conference on Algebraic Methodology and Software Technology, held during July 12 16,2004,in Stirling, Scotland, UK. The major goalof the AMAST c- ferences is to promote research that may lead to the setting of software techn- ogy on a rm, mathematical basis. This goal is achieved by a large international cooperationwith contributions from both academia and industry. The virtues of a software technology developed on a mathematical basis have been envisioned asbeing capableofprovidingsoftwarethatis(a)correct, andthecorrectnesscan be provedmathematically, (b) safe, so that it can be used in the implementation of critical systems, (c) portable, i. e. , independent of computing platforms and language generations, and (d) evolutionary, i. e. , it is self-adaptable and evolves with the problem domain. During these meetings, AMAST attracted an international following among researchersand practitioners interested in software technology, progr- ming methodology and their algebraic and logical foundations. For AMAST 2004therewere63 submissionsof overallhigh quality, authored by researchers from Australia, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Korea, Portugal,Spain, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Turkey, the UK, and the USA. All submissions were thoroughly evaluated, and an electronic programcommittee meeting was held to discuss the reviewers reports. The program committee selected 35 papers to be presented.
