In den WarenkorbFirst American Edition. Two volumes; in the publisher's paper covered boards; edges untrimmed; spine labels perished; stained and mended; a good set. Issued anonymously (by the author of Waverley and Ivanhoe), this is a scarce edition, especially in the original binding. Each volume has the book label of 'George Peabody of Salem,' and one volume has his name in ink on the front free endpaper, although the hand is unidentified. This is possibly, but not likely, the famous George Peabody, a successful businessman and philanthropist. While he was from Danvers (at an earlier time, part of Salem), and a nearby town was named for him, most of his life was spent in England. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
