Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. An early seventeenth-century English biblical reference work printed in London by Robert Barker, the King's Printer, in 1615. Barker is best known as the official printer of the earliest editions of the King James Bible (Authorized Version), and this work belongs to that important period in E…nglish Bible publishing. Collected by R.F.H., the work was designed as an extensive biblical concordance and reference guide for locating passages throughout Scripture. Of particular historical interest is the statement that the concordance "will serve as well for the translation called Geneva as for the other authorized to be read in Churches," placing the volume squarely in the transitional period when the Geneva Bible remained widely used while the newly authorized King James Version was gaining acceptance throughout England. Printed in Early Modern English, the text preserves the characteristic spelling and typography of the Jacobean period. Bound in an early full calf binding over heavy boards with raised bands and original hand-sewn supports. The binding appears contemporary or near-contemporary to the text and retains significant original structure despite extensive age-related wear. A well-used but remarkably survival-worthy example. The original calf binding exhibits heavy rubbing, scuffing, surface loss, and substantial deterioration. Spine covering is largely absent. The boards and one small section of the book have detached from the spine but all text is present. Opening leaves show water staining, edge wear, and losses, with additional corner losses and binding wear throughout. The text block itself remains surprisingly solid for its age, with many leaves clean and legible. Included is the section titled "The summe of the whole Scripture of the Bookes of the Old and New Testament," a feature commonly found in early English Bible reference works. A highly desirable example of early seventeenth-century English Bible printing from the press of Robert Barker, significant to collectors of King James Bibles, Geneva Bibles, English Protestant history, and early English printing.
