In den WarenkorbZustand: Gut. 47 S. Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Neither a painter nor sculptor, per se, Duchamp was a kind of jack-of-all-trades and agent provocateur, of sorts. Having created his legendary Cubist/Futurist painting Nude Descend-ing a Staircase in 1912, which became the succes de scandale at the 1913 Armory show in New York, Duchamp abandoned painting. "I could have produced ten other nudes, without doubt," Duchamp remarked, "if I had wished to at that time. The fact of the matter is that I decided not to. I undertook immediately to work out another formula . It was impossible for me to apply myself to splashing paint at random from brushstrokes on a canvas. I wanted to return to a kind of an art that was dry . Duchamp's complex Output includes paintings, drawings, notes, machines, movies, Ready-mades, and elaborate room-sized constructions. He insisted that art should be at the ser-vice of the mind, as opposed to a particular skill or material, and he brought to his art an interest in traditionally non-art subject matter, such as linguistics, mathematics and game theory. At one point, the artist replaced his art making with chess playing. ISBN 0916758133 Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550 Mit zahlr. auch farb. Abb. Originalbroschur.

In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Very Good. These ingenious interviews will amuse, provoke and delight. Veering from the intensely serious to the wildly silly, Dead Interviews grants writers the chance to sit down with their heroes and flex their cerebral muscles, or simply indulge in some bookish gossip with a deceased icon. Pitch-perfect mimesis meets razor sharp literary criticism in the book that refuses to let dead writers lie. The contributors: Rick Moody on Jimi Hendrix, Cynthia Ozick on Henry James, Douglas Coupland on Andy Warhol, Sam Leith on John Berryman, Geoff Dyer on Friedrich Nietzsche, A. M. Homes on Richard Nixon, David Mitchell on Samuel Johnson and James Boswell, John Burnside on Rachel Carson, ZZ Packer on Monsieur de Saint-George, Michel Faber on Marcel Duchamp, Rebecca Miller on the Marquis de Sade, Ian Rankin on Arthur Conan Doyle and Joyce Carol Oates on Robert Frost. In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Very Good. 'She vividly charts the birth of surrealism . . . a tale rich in absurdity and outlandish characters, from Cocteau and Max Ernst to Dali and Picasso' Sunday Times In this entertaining and informative biography, Sue Roe illustrates how surrealism emerged in Paris amidst an artistic ambience of lively experimentation. Before surrealism made its startling impact, artists including Marcel Duchamp and Giorgio De Chirico had already begun to shift the focus of the art scene in Montparnasse. Beginning with Duchamp, Roe tells the story of the wonderfully eccentric and avant-garde Dada movement, the birth of Surrealist photography with Man Ray and his muse Kiki de Montparnasse, the love triangle between writer Paul Eluard, his wife Gala and the artist Max Ernst, until the arrival of Salvador Dali in 1929. In Montparnasse recounts the extraordinary, revolutionary work these artists undertook as much as the salons, cafe life, friendships, rows and love affairs that were their background. 'Highly colourful . . . they're all here, the big names of the time - behaving badly, and, at times, quite madly too' Observer 'Brings together some of the chief protagonists in one of the 20th century's most inventive art movements. A vivid read' Radio Times. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Very Good. A smart, readable account of the unexpected scientific principles that drive success' Financial Times The Formula is the groundbreaking book that reveals the indisputable scientific laws that turn achievements into success and shows how you can use them to your own advantage. In The Formula, Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, one of the world's leading experts on the science of networks, reveals the unspoken rules behind who gets ahead and why, and outline the five laws that govern this phenomenon and how we can use them to succeed. Drawing on Big Data research that covers everyone from the ace fighter pilot The Red Baron to graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat; Miles Davis and his recording of Kind of Blue to Marcel Duchamp and Tiger Woods, Barabasi shows why success can come at any time, as long as we are persistent, why in successful teams one person gets the lion's share of the credit and why the last interviewee almost always gets the job. Unveiling the scientific principles that drive success, and how to leverage them, Barabasi offers a new understanding of the very foundation of how people excel in today's society, and how to harness these principles for yourself. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
