In den WarenkorbPp.39. Newspaper supplement format, illustrated, with colour-printed covers. 'The Living Daylights' appears on pages 2332, with an illustrated title piece. It is the first publication of this James Bond 'novelette', and also the first illustrated edition. An important printing. Some very light handling; fine. This periodical appearance, being a newspaper insert, is a scarce and fragile item, many of which simply did not survive. An unusually morose James Bond is assigned sniper duty to help a defector known as "272" escape from East Berlin. The story was later published in the collection 'Octopussy and The Living Daylights'. In the 60s, under Ian Fleming's direction, The Sunday Times Magazine invented the concept of a colour supplement and catalogued the cultural trends and realignment of the nation's image; this colour supplement defined the genre for a generation, and this, the very first issue, featured some of the key names now forever linked with that decade, namely Ian Fleming (with a new James Bond story), photographer David Bailey, designer Mary Quant, model Jean Shrimpton, and pop-artist Peter Blake. Gilbert A14a 'Periodical Appearances', page 443-4.

In den Warenkorbnear fine dust-jacket, cover price $45.00, fresh attractive hardcover with black spine and gray boards. SHAKESPEARE, NICHOLAS. Ian Fleming: the complete man. New York, NY: Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, 2023, stated First U.S. edition, and 1st printing number line ending in 1, xxix, 821pp., . A fresh portrait of the man behind James Bond, and his enduring impact, by an award-winning biographer with unprecedented access to the Fleming family papers - "Ian Fleming's greatest creation, James Bond, has had an enormous and ongoing impact on our culture. What Bond represents about ideas of masculinity, the British national psyche and global politics has shifted over time, as has the interpretation of the life of his author. But Fleming himself was more mysterious and subtle than anything he wrote. Ian's childhood with his gifted brother Peter and his extraordinary mother set the pattern for his ambition to be 'the complete man', and he would strive for the means to achieve this 'completeness' all his life. Only a thriller writer for his last twelve years, his dramatic personal life and impressive career in Naval Intelligence put him at the heart of critical moments in world history, while also providing rich inspiration for his fiction. Exceptionally well connected, and widely travelled, from the United States and Soviet Russia to his beloved Jamaica, Ian had access to the most powerful political figures at a time of profound change".
