Zustand: as new. Göttingen : Steidl, 2016. Hardcover. 234 pp. (1 folded) : illustrations (chiefly color) ; 32 cm. English text. - Over the course of her career, Angela Grauerholz (born 1952) has created a subjective vision of our world, full of intimate moments that reveal the passage of time. Her spaces are filled with people, glimpses of public and private interiors, and ethereal rural and urban landscapes. The out-of-focus quality of her photographs transforms them into a stream of consciousness, generating a sense of collective memory. She considers this approach "a representation of our experience: a continuous prodding into something that escapes us continuously." Turning away from the single image shown on the wall, her photographs are displayed inside cabinets, in portfolios or on sliding panels. This method creates new viewing possibilities, opens up narrative potential, and pushes the concept of the archive to reveal its potentially endless thematic categories and points of entry. Grauerholz's attention to how the medium is displayed and experienced makes the viewer an active participant in her photographic universe. Pictorial wrappers. As new. [Madrid 2006/7.] 8vo. 192 pp. Richly illustrated in colour. EXIT #24 - Ruins Between beauty and horror, between decadence and the memory of times past, the ruin emerges in the most contemporary landscapes as an eternal reference to history and as a catastrophic prediction of the future. The Incomprehensible Beauty of Tragedy is the theme proposed by Rosa Olivares in her editorial, in which the new concept of the ruin found in contemporary photography is revealed, exposing the relevance with which this medium deals with the theme, considering it to be more than a mere connection to a subject which was so widely dealt with by artists in the past. A reoccurring theme in Art History, it takes shape this time through the latest photography practice. The Pleasure of Ruins is the title of the text by Daniel Canogar, guest editor of this issue. He writes of the attraction that artists, and especially photographers, have felt to the ruin, towards the catastrophe, and of how beauty and the aesthetic approach have overcome tragedy and decadence. Canogar explores the revision of the concept of the ruin from Classical Antiquity to the present day, emphasising significant photographic work such as that of Charles Marville in 19th century Paris, to the work of Gordon Matta-Clark, as an intervener upon ruins. The Memory of Ruins, a text by Rebecca Solnit, closes this section. American writer and historian, she has been awarded prestigious prizes such as the Lanzan and the Western Writers of America Spur Award. In a prophetic way, Solnit journeys through various important American cities such as New York and San Francisco, where tragedy and neglect have converted life past into buried stratum. As well as these significant theoretical contributions, the absolute protagonists are, as always in EXIT, the best photographic works of the moment in which the ruin is the primary subject. Among the artists included are: Frank Thiel, Chris Jordan, Brian McKee, Luc Delahaye, Victor Burgin, Edward Burtynsky, Montserrat Soto, Michael Eastman, Shinichiro Kobayashi, Stéphane Couturier, Adrian Tyler, Yuji Saiga, Dionisio González, Zhang Dali, Lara Almarcegui, Zhang Wang, Lida Abdul, Francesc Torres, Joel Meyerowitz, Simon Norfolk, Robert Polidori, Sze Tsung Leong, Gabriele Basilico, Richard Misrach, Juan de Sande, Ryuji Miyamoto, Nuno Cera, Mark Klett, Pilar Pequeño, Chas, Anthony Hernandez, Zineb Sedira, Sara Maneiro, Joaquim Koester, Paul Davies, Rosell Meseguer, Naoya Hatekeyama.

Buch. Zustand: Neu.

Softcover. Zustand: Gut bis sehr gut. Softcover, Auktionskatalog,London 19 May 2016, 92 Seiten, 134 Lots The sale of Photographs brought a total of £1,422,375 ($2,073,823), with 25% of the buyers new to Sotheby's. Rarely seen at auction, Irving Penn's breath-taking Mouth (For L'Oreal), New York commanded the top price, selling for £221,000. His portrayal of female lips marks a legacy of timelessly elegant photographs which captured an unexpected and surreal beauty. An iconic photograph of supermodels laughing on the beach by Peter Lindbergh encapsulating his fresh, pioneering style, and his ability to capture effortless, natural beauty sold for £81,250, a new auction record for this subject by the photographer. Richard Avedon aimed to reveal the true character of his subjects in his portraits. Whilst photographing Marilyn Monroe in his New York studio in May 1957, he was able to capture the 'real' Marilyn Monroe. Estimated at £30,000-50,000, his image of one of the world's most photographed stars whose charms, splendour and flirtations with tragedy were made wildly public sold for £77,500. Softcover. Zustand: Gut bis sehr gut. Softcover, Auktionskatalog, New York 28 July 2016, 152 Seiten, 142 Lots Welcome to Sotheby's second annual Contemporary Living auction! We invite you to explore and inquire about this unique combination of 20th and 21st century art and design, and hope that you will join us in our New York galleries from July 23-28 for this exciting exhibition and sale. Sotheby's would like to thank interior designer Fernando Santangelo for creating the vignettes featured above and throughout our Contemporary Living catalogue. Hailing from Montevideo, Uruguay, Mr. Santangelo established his New York City based design firm, Fernando Santangelo Inc., in 1995 after successfully redesigning the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles for hotelier André Balazs. Mr. Santangelo's thoughtful approach to color, placement and proportion explores the way in which inanimate objects can enliven and enrich our lives, and Sotheby's is pleased to offer a glimpse of his command of visual juxtaposition in this catalogue. Buch
