Hardcover. Zustand: New. Grammar and Beyond is a new perspective of looking into Paninian grammar. The author has methodically chosen the titles included in the book with a view to analysing the processes underlying the formations that have been described by Panini under the Sutra Krttaddhitasamasasca. This Sutra defines the secondary formations in Sanskrit and gives them the status of Pratipadika which is the Base of nominal formations in Sanskrit. According to Arthavadadhaturapratyahah Pratipadikamit is one of the three basic meaningful units of Sanskrit language. Thus though formed by adding two Basic meaningful units the secondary forms are structurally and semantically independent words that convey special meaning. In order to highlight the uniqueness of Krdanta formations Tinanta has been presented in an independent chapter. The inclusion of Nan (negation) in the list is purposeful and illuminating. The choice of Sanskrit grammatical terms makes the context authentic and helps in avoiding confusion. Since the language analysed by Panini is not available in its original form the author has meticulously chosen examples of grammatical rules from the prose in Sanskrit drama which is the closest one can get to spoken language. The subject of the plays chosen, provides a broad spectrum of language use, from romantic to social and also political contexts. The author has worked systematically to look into the philosophy of Sanskrit grammar to discover the universality in human language and has tried to give a description of how this insight can be helpful in creating a universal grammar of human language. This insight, when fully researched and developed, may also help in understanding how the human mind works to express and understand language in general.
