Amsterdam, IISG, 1997. 126 pp. Illustrated. A few pages with pen- or pencilmarkings in the margin. Most text clean.Softcover. Contr. in English, French and German by S.J. Pomrenze, Florence de Lussy, Esfir Bramson-Alperniené, F.J. Hoogewoud, A.W. Rosenberg and others. Fifty years after World War II the issue of the spoils of war remains current: many archives, books and works of art presumed lost have been rediscovered in recent years, particularly in Eastern Europe. In the spring fo 1946 the return of the looted books from Germany to the Netherlands started. These books had been taken from institutions including the Bibliothe Rosenthaliana Amsterdam University Library), Ets Haim (Portuguese Jewish Seminary) and the Grand East of the Netherlands and other Freemason collections. Later socialist-communist holdings were traced and sent back as well.
