As for the author's intention in writing this contemporary history of Indian people it resembles to that of Gorkey of pre revolution Russia. Through his autobiographical novels he expressed the grass roots features of an age of a great transformation. From a feudalistic society the people of Russia were heading towards a new social system the so called communist or socialist society. Though after disintegration of the USSR the forvour of the great upsurge is subsided to a great existent within a century the transition has played its historical role. This book attempts to cover the transition of Indian society from 1926 onwards (Four Generations Eight Decades). The first volume contains it till 1947. According to the author the Indian transition of society has a cause and effect relationship with a spiritual revolution. 1926 is a water shade year. 1947 is significant with a great culmination point. The author provides a case study on micro level and a cross section on macro level social transformation. This is altogether a new historiographical approach. Teachers and students of history as well as research people in sociology world find it enlightening and useful. For the general reader it is fascinating almost as a novel. 322 pp.
