ABOUT THE AUTHOR A career diplomat with over 35 years of experience serving India's interests in 11 countries, he has been passionate about Hindi films since his university days in Allahabad. During this time, he enjoyed watching black-and-white films featuring Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, and Dev Anand in the late-night shows with friends. He was also captivated by the performances of Madhubala, Meena Kumari, and Nargis. While serving abroad, he has organized Indian film festivals in Mexico city, Santiago in Chile, La Paz in Bolivia, Hong Kong, Damascus (Syria), London, Maputo (Mozambique), Tripoli (Libya), Chicago (USA), Nairobi, and Mombasa in Kenya. He has interviewed Satyajit Ray, Dev Anand, Shyam Benegal, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, and Nandita Das. His book, Legends of Indian Cinema, had an introduction by Shyam Benegal and a foreword by David Chute, a Hollywood film critic. His articles on film actors have periodically been published in the Hindustan Times, Times of India, Asian Age, The Tribune, Sunday Guardian, and other publications.
