To begin with, this took the form of inspiration and encouragement, provided by the high-quality objects that were collected and exhibited in the new institution for this purpose. In the course of time, the historical development of the Museum saw it becoming involved in influencing contemporary creative production in a more active way, by announcing and organising competitions on specific themes in the field of applied art, often in liaison with the School of Applied Arts.
