Originalbroschur. Zustand: Sehr gut. Reprint. 128 S. Mit Widmung für Gerhard Fichtner. Papierbedingt leicht gebräunt. - The authors first of all give a history of the exploration of Ephemerids [Mayflies] beginning with Aristoteles, until the early observations of Julius Caesar Scaliger and finally the first illustration of a mayfly larva in the insect book of Ulysse Aldrovandi. Further they inform about special circumstances, which induced Outgert Cluyt to engage himself with this group of animals, the conception of his methodical proceeding, the actual results and the effects of his work until the 18th century. Extremely important in this connection is the reference to the discussion of Jan Swammerdam with Cluyt's opusculum, which seemed to have been forgotten soon after published his own Ephemeri vita in 1675.
