Il fotografo Ken Ohara si è trasferito da Tokyo a New York nel 1962 e si è imposto all'attenzione del pubblico nel 1970 con la pubblicazione di One, che conteneva più di 500 primi piani di volti. Nei 30 anni successivi, Ohara ha continuato i suoi studi di ritratto in forme molto diverse. Questa vasta collezione presenta per la prima volta sette progetti nella loro interezza, pezzi realizzati tra il 1970 e il 2003, alcuni dei quali sono stati esposti per la prima volta al MoMA, e altri che sono stati visti raramente.
