He was also the first to photograph the pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian desert or South African gold mines from the air. Spelterini led a spectacular life between showman and researcher, traveled halfway around the world with his hot air balloon, camera and glass plate negatives, was courted by the celebrities of his time and gave lectures in numerous countries. This book presents around 80 of the coloured photographs that Spelterini had used for his more than 600 lectures. These sensational aerial photographs, dramatized by the color or, as it were, enchanted, are supplemented by texts by the photo historian Anton Holzer and the zeppelin specialist Jürgen Bleibler.
