Internationalen Architekturausstellung der Biennale Venedig zeigt eine Ausstellung über dieses Gebäude selbst. Neighbours ist ein Gespräch über den Zaun hinweg zwischen den Pavillons der Schweiz (1952, Architekt: Bruno Giacometti) und demjenigen Venezuelas (1954, Architekt: Carlo Scarpa). Es sind dies die einzigen zwei Pavillons in den Giardini, die sich direkt berühren: Sie teilen sich eine Wand. Die Künstlerin Karin Sander und der Kunsthistoriker Philip Ursprung schneiden nun vorübergehend eine Öffnung in diese Wand und demontieren die Tore des Schweizer Pavillons. Durch die Beseitigung der Barrieren werden unvorhergesehene Verbindungen zwischen den beiden Nachbarn sichtbar, sowohl in der Ferne als auch in der Nähe. Ein Manifest, ein Theaterstück mit den zwei Gebäuden als handelnden Akteuren sowie zehn Gespräche, u. a. mit dem Architekturhistoriker Kurt W. Forster, den Fotografen Paolo Gasparini und Guido Giudi sowie mit den venezolanischen Architektinnen Elisa Silva und Margarita López-Maya, runden das Buch ab. Dabei geht es um Bruno Giacometti und Carlo Scarpa, um Wohnquartiere in Caracas, um Bilder dieser Stadt der deutschen Fotografin Leonore Mau (1916-2013) aus den 1970er-Jahren, um Architektur in Venezuela und um die Zukunft des Schweizer Pavillons.
