He was the founding dean of the Faculty for Applied Computer Science where he established an Elite Master programme on Software Engineering together with TU Munich and LMU Munich and the study programme on Computer Science in Engineering. In 2008 he founded the Institute for Software & Systems Engineering and became its scientific director.
