French text. - Fabienne Joubert's Les tapisseries presents medieval tapestry as both art and historical document. Flourishing between the 14th and 16th centuries, tapestries adorned castles, churches, and civic buildings, serving decorative, symbolic, and didactic purposes. Joubert investigates their narrative content, often drawn from biblical, mythological, or chivalric sources, and highlights their role in expressing power, lineage, and ideology. Tapestries are examined as visual testimonies of medieval thought, ceremony, and taste, with attention to materiality, workshop practices, and patronage. The fascicle offers a framework for interpreting these woven images not merely as decoration but as complex cultural artifacts. It remains a key reference for historians and art historians seeking to understand the monumental and narrative function of textile arts in the Middle Ages. Condition : very good copy.
