About the book >.>.> The Ballast Project is an art project by the Glasgow-based artist Nathan Coley, which he conceived and executed for the Government Buildings Agency as a commission for Het Scheepvaartmuseum, the National Maritime Museum, in Amsterdam. The project was realized through the Per-centage for Art Programme - an art policy first established in 1951 - which earmarks a percentage of the construction budget of a new building, a renovation or the purchase of state buildings to commissioned visual art. The implemen tation of the Percentage Programme is the responsibility of the Atelier of the Chief Government Architect. With the renovation of Het Scheepvaartmuseum, carried out by architect Liesbeth van der Pol, budget became avai lable for an art project.
