She has been interested in Wright's work for over a decade and has traveled extensively in the United States visiting his many buildings. Her previously published worked include many books on art and architecture in the 20th century as well as a previous book on Frank Lloyd Wright's use of glass. Frank Lloyd Wright (June 8, 1867 - April 9, 1959) was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years. Wright played a key role in the architectural movements of the twentieth century, influencing architects worldwide through his works and hundreds of apprentices in his Taliesin Fellowship. Wright believed in designing in harmony with humanity and the environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was exemplified in Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture". Even as a young man, Frank Lloyd Wright revealed the genius that eventually earned him a reputation as one of the boldest, most pioneering architects of all time. Almost as soon as he began his professional life, Wright started thoroughly reworking conceptions of domestic space: he broke down the traditional barriers between rooms, rethought their functions, and blurred the distinctions between indoors and out. These design experiments commenced with his very own studio in Oak Park in 1889, while he was still just an apprentice--and, in that same Oak Park suburb, he also produced a series of "bootleg houses" that carry his stamp, albeit in embryonic form. The youthful master comes into full focus here, with a look at his schooling, first professional experiences, and influences.
