It is therefore a great pleasure to be able to introduce what is the most significant exhibition of her paintings to date. It is always exciting to see the work of an artist develop before one's eyes, and this has certainly been the case during the realisation of this exhibition, for Milroy was asked to make a show for us at a time when her work was undergoing significant change. During the past year she has used more of a gestural form of expression to make complex works which depict thoughts, memories and narratives in shifting space. This exhibition provides an opportunity to witness the development of her work over the past two decades and to trace the ideas which have shaped her current practice. For this exhibition, the paintings are presented in groups rather than chronologically, to enable the themes within the work to resonate.
