Zustand: Gut. 208 Seiten; zahlr., meist farbige Illustr.; 30 cm; kart. Gutes Exemplar. - Mit farb. illustr. Einband. - Englisch. - Richard Hamilton, CH (* 24. Februar 1922 in London; 13. September 2011 ebenda) war ein britischer Maler, Grafiker und Pop-Art-Künstler. . (wiki) // Inhalt: FOREWORD SPONSOR'S FOREWORD --- RICHARD HAMILTON: THE LONGER VIEW Richard Morphet --- THE PLEASURES AND SORROWS OF MODERNITY: VISION, SPACE AND THE SOCIAL BODY IN RICHARD HAMILTON David Mellor --- 'A LIQUID, ELEMENTAL SCATTERING': MARCEL DUCHAMP AND RICHARD HAMILTON Sarat Maharaj --- 'YES' . & NO . --- Stephen Snoddy --- COLOUR PLATES --- CATALOGUE --- CHRONOLOGY --- BIBLIOGRAPHY --- INDEX. // This catalogue has been produced to accompany the most important exhibition to date of the work of Richard Hamilton, a key figure in twentieth-century British art. It surveys his final statements, primarily as a painter but also including two environments and functional equipment he has designed, such as a working computer and a high fidelity amplifier which merges object with painting. Over a hundred works chart Hamilton's career, from previously unexhibited paintings of 1940 to a new canvas commenting on the Gulf War of 1991. Richard Hamilton is recognised internationally as one of the founding creators of Pop art and the catalogue traces in detail the emergence of this tendency, reproducing all of Hamilton's masterworks in the genre. It shows, however, that it is impossible to confine his vision within the concept of Pop, for Hamilton's art engages with a kaleidoscope of subjects, from lyrical landscape to space exploration, from architecture to eroticism and from great art of the past to contemporary moral issues. Seen together, the striking and surprising images which Hamilton has created constitute a thought-provoking commentary on life in the modern era. A continuous thread through Hamilton's work since 1964 is social and political concern. Works examined in this catalogue address such subjects as nuclear disarmament, the isolation of media idols, civil liberty, the National Health Service, the conflict in Northern Ireland and the experience of modern warfare. Complementing these are others which explore cinema photography, the artifice of fashion, personal relationships and classics of modern design. The catalogue has been edited by Richard Morphet, Keeper of the Modern Collection at the Tate Gallery, who also contributes the opening essay identifying the principal themes in Hamilton's work. Further essays are by Dr Sarat Maharaj on the vital relationship between Hamilton's work and that of Marcel Duchamp, by Dr David Mellor on the ways in which Hamilton's work has reflected the times in which he has worked and by Stephen Snoddy on Irish themes in Hamilton's art. One hundred and six works are illustrated in colour and the origin and meaning of each is set out in entries which draw on detailed discussions with the artist. These are supplemented by an extensive biographical chronology and all parts of the catalogue are supported by fascinating comparative illustrations. The catalogue provides the most comprehensive account available of the development of an outstandingly original artist. (Verlagstext) ISBN 1854370987 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1500.
