Jeffrey Ethell (1947-1997) was an American aviation author and pilot who wrote extensively on aviation and military matters. Starting at a remarkably young age, Ethell, published an extensive serie…s of technical studies of WWII-era aircraft and eventually authored 60 books and over 1,000 magazine articles covering all aspects of aviation. He soloed at 18 and logged over 4,800 hours in over 210 different types of aircraft, including most of the various warbirds of the allied and Axis sides from WWII. His works on color photography of the World War II era brought to life an era which many thought had only been filmed in black and white. Dr Alfred Price served as an aircrew officer in the Royal Air Force. He logged over 4,000 flying hours. He is author of 46 books and more than 200 magazine articles. He holds a Ph.D. in history from Loughborough University and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. During the desperate closing stages of the Second World War, the Germans brought into action several new aircraft types - the jet-propelled Messerschmitt Me262 Sturmvogel and Arado Ar234 Blitz and the rocket-powered Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet. The British introduced the jet-powered Gloster Meteor and the Japanese the Yokosuka Ohka. This book tells the full story of the development and operational careers of these aircraft. It also tells the stories of the two American and one German jet aircraft that had entered squadron service and were on the point of going into action when the war ended: the Lockheed P-80A Shooting Star, the Ryan FR-1 Fireball and the Bachem 349 Natter.
