In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: As New. Like new paperback copy, appears unopened and unread BUT there is a personalised inscription from the author on a front end paper. 1st edition. Published by Truran Books of Cornwall, 126 pages. Illustrated throughout, in colour and black and white. An excellent book detailing the growth of a Cornish family and shipbuilding business. Very well researched with dates, names, events beginning in the early 1800's and giving a very clear picture of life in a small community, but involving some members in worldwide travel. For people interested in Daphne du Maurier's inspiration for her first novel 'The Loving Spirit' , this is a very useful history of the Slade family and their shipyards in Polruan. Written when she was only 22, 'The Loving Spirit' was inspired by Daphne's discovery of a ship, The Jane Slade, left to rot at Pont Pill, fully rigged and with its figurehead of a woman (Jane Slade). She asked local people about the history of the ship and based her novel on the Slade family, and in particular, on Jane Slade, changing the names to Coombe. The figurehead was given to Daphne by descendants of the family and now adorns the front of the du Maurier home, 'Ferryside' at Boddinick. We pack our books properly and ship daily from the UK.
