An incredible number of fine domestic properties within ten miles radius of Wrexham have been lost. These vary from huge country seats such as Horsley Hall to diminutive timber-framed properties like Plas Gwern or the elegance of Gresford Lodge. Some important houses like Broughton and Emral have been lost - although the Jacobean barrel-vaulted ceiling from Emral was rescued by Clough Williams-Ellis and survives in the town hall at Portmeirion. This book was completed just before the death of Raymond Lowe, the author, who had encountered these fine buildings through his work as a building surveyor. The book includes many of his own high quality line drawings, together with contemporary photographs and a detailed account of sixty properties and the families who lived in them.
