He learns that the local police have been ordered to drop the case to avoid impeding an on-going investigation of the organisation by Special Branch. The same restraint is maintained, even when more disturbing news about Fred emerges. Greg is determined to bring his brother-in-law's abductors to justice, but a more serious consideration by far is the Realignment Society's threat to national security. Even with MI5 and Special Branch involved, however, Greg refuses to be side lined.
