As fireworks were "bursting in air" below the star-lit skies of America, the Viking 1 orbiter was snapping pictures of a myste-rious red planet millions of miles away. Amazingly, one of these pictures, from an area called Cydonia, would reveal an anomalous mesa that exhib-ited a most remarkable portrait of a humanoid face.
