Susan Bibler Coutin and Barbara Yngvesson speak to the current historical moment in which the dichotomy between an 'above ground' inhabited by dominant groups and an 'underground' to which unauthorized immigrants, political exiles, and transnational adoptees are relegated cannot be sustained.
