Cover has slight curve and minor soiling. Small scuff inside front cover. Fuat M. Andic was born in Istanbul, studied development economics a the universities of Istanbul (B), Michigan (MA) and Edinburgh (Ph.D.). He taught economics and public finance at the University of Puerto Rico and authored or co-authored fifteen books and over sixty articles on this subject in professional journals . Upon retirement, he continues to work as senior consultant to international organizations. The book includes seventeen short stories. They all relate to ordinary people whom we see on the street, or walking through the aisles of a supermarket, or waiting in a doctor's office, or in a hairdresser's salon. None is extraordinary, none is a hero. Yet, in one way or another, they are faced with either an extraordinary situation or become an extraordinary being, none of which is permanent. From a review found on-line: Fuat Andic is an insightful writer whose stories in his book "Word"--are a sheer delight to read. Many take place in Turkey, the author's homeland, but most are set in places across the globe where Andic has traveled and worked. The stories are full of characters, plot twists and a good dose of philosophy and humor. You can read the complete volume and be thinking about it long thereafter.
