He was asked to develop a program in Zoological Medicine (captive, free-ranging and privately owned wild animals), the first of its kind anywhere in the world. He was the Veterinarian for the Sacramento Zoo for 35 years. He was an editor, author or co-author of 19 books and 217 professional papers.
