However, there are no books dealing specifically with the tramroads of this area, and they have been disused for so long that their routes and purpose are a matter of complete mystification to most local people, and the time will come when the same will be said of the railways except, one hopes, of the one still in use. Fortunately the proportion of tramroad and railway formation still surviving is remarkably high, and it has been accepted that the routes of the old lines should be put into good order as a public amenity. seems desirable therefore that the story of the tramroads should be told, as far as this is possible, and that it should be combined within the covers of one book with the history of the local railways.…
