Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. Used, good condition, hard cover with slipcase.Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour by Robert Smith Surtees is an 1853 satirical novel about Soapey Sponge, a cunning, fortune-hunting rogue. Aiming to ingratiate himself with the sporting elite, Sponge travels the English countryside, exploiting the hospitality of wealthy country squires to indulge his obsession with fox hunting while arranging shady horse trades. The book is a biting, humorous critique of mid-19th-century English country gentry. The hard cover book has some foxing to the opening page edges but is otherwise in good condition with sound binding, good corners and internally clean pages. The gold slipcase has some damage to the opening corners and a small split on one of these. It is sufficiently intact to hold the book with a tight fit. Copyright © R.S. Surtees Society. …
