The etchings, lithographs, and engravings contained in this volume were drawn from the collections of the Maryland Historical Society. These detailed etchings and delicately tinted images illuminate the vitality and dynamism of Maryland history, and will appeal to historians and art enthusiasts alike. The images in this book are drawn from the Maryland Historical Society's collection, which contains over 7,000 prints representing Maryland's rich history. These images range in date from the late fourteenth century to the present, and include woodcuts, engravings, etchings, lithographs, and photomechanical prints. All of the prints included here are limited to images associated with Maryland's history between the years 1743 and 1900, those published no later than 1900, and those that were issued as single sheets or a full-page plates in books, pamphlets, atlases, and as sheet music covers. Portraits, maritime prints, maps,certificates, currency, and billheads are not included. Printing technology, the business of printing, and the lives of the printers are not the primary focus of this work; they are, however, included as part of a broader discussion.
