The author describes Art Deco and analyzes in detail the work of the great artists and designers in France, England and America - Paul Poiret, Emile-Jaques Ruhlmann, Rene Lalique, Jena Dunand, Syrie Maugham, Elsie de Wolfe - and the movements and technical innovations that influenced them. Martin Battersby was internationally recognized as a trompe l'oeil painter and mural decorator and his acquisitions of Art Nouveau and Art Deco form the basis of the collection now at the Brighton Museum. The editor, Philippe Garner, is author of "Emile Galle"(1976) and is the editor of "The Phaidon Encyclopedia of Decorative Arts, 1890-1940" (1978). He provides a brief biography of Battersby in the text. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
