R. Forster's career was marred by disputes and controversies, leading to many of his significant works remaining as obscure manuscripts rather than achieving the recognition they warranted. After his death in 1798, his vast personal library was sold to the Royal Library of the King of Prussia, now known as the Prussian State Library, where his six-volume journal is preserved. This journal provides a unique and candid perspective on daily life and relationships during this notable voyage, which is recognised for its scientific rigor and epic nature.Furthermore, Forster's journal served as the foundation for his son George's influential travelogue, A Voyage round the World (1777), which impacted both science and literature across various translations.
