Robert G. Poirier was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a recipient of the Bronze Star. Poirier was the author of numerous articles and several books including, Red Army Order of Battle and By the Blood of Our Alumni: Norwich University Citizen Soldiers in the Army of the Potomac. Albert Z. Conner Jr. was an author and historian. Conner received his master's degree in government from Georgetown University in 1981. He served for 30 years in the federal service -- consisting of 12 years in the infantry and military intelligence, *with two tours in Vietnam); and 18 years with the Defense Intelligence Agency. The listed authors should be consider more as compilers and editors. This is an important reference work. This is one of the most comprehensive compilations of Russian military unit information and provides insight into the Soviet military world through Soviet eyes. Nowhere else at the time was this material available in such meticulously ordered form. This work provides invaluable source material for historians, war-gamers, Strategists, military logisticians and other key staff, and others with aligned interests. The authors have done a tremendous job in screening the vase amount of data available and delineating the combat histories of the fully mobilized Red Army.
