This book tells the story of a Canadian manufacturer, The John Inglis Company, Limited of Toronto, Ontario, and some of the activities of its important Ordnance Division during World War II, when it became one of the largest Ordnance factories in the British Empire, occupying a floor area of nearly one million square feet. In the face of serious wartime shortages of personnel, machinery and raw materials, Inglis strove to produce a variety of highly specialised products. Among these were about 150,000 Canadian-made Inglis Browning 9mm High Power pistols. From the collector's standpoint, the Inglis Browning High Power is an ideal subject for study. It was Canada's first and only mass-produced handgun, and was in production for a very brief span of time, consequently being made in relatively few numbers. Nevertheless, Inglis pistols exist in four basic madel/marks, within which can be found a complex and often bewildering variety of markings, some of which have never been satisfactorily explained to this day.
