Very Good condition in a very good dust jacket. The light blue cloth boards remain clean and sturdy, with bright gilt spine titling and only minor shelf rubbing. Binding is tight and square; text block is clean and unmarked, with no writing or bookplates. Endpapers show light toning. The dust jacket is complete but shows significant edge wear, including chipping at the spine ends and corners, short closed tears, creasing, and surface rubbing to both panels. The rear flap has an old price sticker. First American edition of this posthumous collection, assembled and introduced by Rupert Hart-Davis from manuscripts and previously uncollected writings by Max Beerbohm, one of the great stylists and wits of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. The volume gathers essays, sketches, and reminiscences spanning Beerbohm's long career, including rare early pieces and material unavailable elsewhere. Originally produced in Great Britain and issued here by Stephen Greene Press, this edition provides an authoritative and engaging view into Beerbohm's prose at its most reflective and humorous. A useful addition to collections of Beerbohm, literary humor, or twentieth-century English letters. From the personal library of Tony Walton (1934-2022), Academy Award- and multiple Tony Award-winning stage and costume designer, celebrated for his imaginative work in stage and film.
