With this new impetus, kilns in Japan were reorganized and expanded to satisfy the enormous demand. Highly prized, the porcelain was lavishly displayed at the English court of Queen Mary, and in palaces and grand houses throughout Holland, France, and Germany. The more than ninety examples presented here from the collection of Peggy and Roger Gerry in The Metropolitan Museum of Art reflect the development stimulated by the international trade carried on primarily by the Dutch in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
