The illuminated manuscript form which the paintings in this volume have been reproduced -- Ms.latin 9471) belonging to the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, France -- is traditionally known as the Grandes Heures de Rohan, and comprises (reproductions of) 239 folios created roughly between 1425 and 1430. One or two small, darker spots to bottom left corner of front board and the bottom edge of the slipcase shows some corner bumping and loss of paper covering the cardboard frame. The Book of Hours consiss of a Calendar, Fragments of the Four Gospels; Fragments of the Passion According to St. John; Various Prayers to Christ and the Virgin; The Five Sorrows of the Virgin; Hours of the Virgin; Penitential Psalms; Liltanies of the Saints; Hours of the Cross; Hours of the Holy Spirit; The Fifteen Joys of the Virgin; The Seven Petitions to Our Lord; Prayer to the True Cross; Office of the Dead; Suffrages; Stabat Mater. Several of the original panels were damaged, and of course the reproductions reflect both that damage, and at least one instance of incompleteness. List of plates and bibliography at end.
