Bilko was arrested in 1977, and beaten severely by at least one of ten police officers, which resul…ted in three brain lesions, massive head trauma, and a brain haemorrhage. He was left to stand, shackled to a wall. On September 11, he was taken, naaked and manacled, to a hospital 740 miles away. He died, alone in a cell, the next day from 'extensive brain injury'. He was the twenty first person to die in a South African prison in 12 months and the forty sixth political detainee to die in twelve months. Includes black and white photographs.
