Artists were the first to eject their dull and insipid Brussels carpets in favor of these lively, colorful products of the East, and the art-loving public was not slow in following their example. They all could feel very proud if they were able to acquire a few cheerful little prayer rugs and employ them as table-covers, as scatter rugs, or as throws for couches and as coverings for pillows.
