Inscribed by the author (Folger) on the fep. Inscription reads Margaret Thanks for being so interested in these ideas. Joe Folger. DJ has some edge wear. Sticker residue inside front cover. Highlighting noted on several relatively early pages. This is one of The Jossey-Bass Conflict Resolution Series. Robert Alan Baruch Bush (born January 24, 1948) is an American legal scholar working as the Harry H. Rains Distinguished Professor of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Law at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law. Together with Joseph Folger of Temple University he is the originator, and best known advocate, of the transformative model of mediation. He has authored over two dozen articles and books on mediation and ADR. In 2006 he received the Annual PeaceBuilder Award by the New York State Dispute Resolution Association to honor individuals and organizations that have promoted the field of ADR. He authored an article on mediation in the Jewish tradition, discovering that many of his earlier research findings were compatible with Jewish principles of mediation (P'shara). He has been at Hofstra Law School since 1980. Joseph P. Folger is former professor of communication at Temple University. Bring a fresh approach to the bargaining table. Tap the transformative potential of mediation and discover the full promise of the mediation process. In this insightful work, the authors present an alternative theoretical framework that affords a deeper understanding of conflict and mediation -- one based on respect for personal strength and compassion for others. Drawing on their own experience and a wide body of research, they offer mediation practitioners, administrators, policy makers, and researchers a new and useful perspective on how mediation is currently practiced, how it could be structured to accomplish more, and how to refine the process for future application. The Promise of Mediation, id an award-winning work that has become a landmark classic that changed the field's understanding of the theory and practice of conflict intervention. That volume first articulated the "transformative model" of mediation, which greatly humanized the vision of how the mediation process could help parties in conflict. The transformative model has proved itself and gained increasing acceptance. It is now being used in such diverse arenas as workplace, community, family, organizational, and public policy conflicts, among others. This volume is a foundational resource on transformative practice especially for mediators, facilitators, lawyers, administrators, human resource professionals, policymakers, and conflict resolution researchers and educators. More generally, this book will strike a chord with anyone interested in humanizing our social institutions and building on a relational vision of society. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].
