Erstausgabe
Trade paperback. Zustand: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. xvi, 243, [1] pages. Bibliography. Cover has some wear. Foreword by Bud Selig. Pat Williams is a basketball Hall-of-Famer, co-founder of the NBA's Orlando Magic and former general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers. Also one of America's top motivational and inspirational corporate speakers, Pat has addressed employees from many of the Fortune 500 companies. Pat is also the author of over 100 books, his most recent title is REVOLUTIONARY LEADERSHIP. Pat has been the general manager with NBA teams in Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Orlando, including the 1983 World Champion 76ers. In 1996, Pat was named as one of the 50 most influential people in NBA history. In 2012, Pat received the John W. Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Williams' baseball career began when the Carpenters signed him in 1962 to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, their minor league team in the Florida State League. He was a catcher for two years then retired and moved in to a front office role. Marlins general manager Bill Durney still saw in Williams a natural leader and invited him to be the team's business manager. One year later, the Phillies appointed him to be the general manager of the Spartanburg Phillies. As the Phillies became a powerhouse of the Western Carolinas League, Williams was later elevated to the position of president of the organization in 1967, and was chosen the Minor League Executive of the Year by The Sporting News. Afterwards he spent three years in the Minnesota Twins organization. He knows baseball! Mike Sielski holds degrees from La Salle University of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He has been a sports columnist at the Philadelphia Inquirer since 2013 and was named the top sports columnist in America by the Sports Editors of the Associated Press. He is the author of Fading Echoes: A True Story of Rivalry and Brotherhood from the Football Field to the Fields of Honor and the co-author of How to Be Like Jackie Robinson: Life Lessons from Baseball's Greatest Hero. Long before the blockbuster movie "42" was conceived, Pat Williams told the story of the courage, commitment and character of Jackie Robinson. Pat Williams is a master storyteller. Through deeply inspiring examples using Jackie's own words and actions, How to Be Like Jackie Robinson proves that, not only is he one of our greatest heroes, but he is also one of our greatest teachers. Unlike most biographies on Jackie Robinson, this book profiles his amazing life and offers valuable lessons drawn from his experiences that directly apply to practical, everyday improvement and personal success. How to Be Like Jackie Robinson is one of the ten dynamic books in the How to Be Like character biography series, which draws out important lessons from the life of each subject. When Jackie Robinson stepped onto Ebbets Field on April 15th, 1947, he broke the color line -- the first African-American ever to play baseball in the major leagues. Robinson was not only a baseball hero, but also an amazing agent for social change who played an invaluable role in the civil rights movement. On and off the field, Robinson was a man of great talent, character and courage--a true hero and great national treasure. In this book based on more than 1,000 interviews, Pat Williams tackles one of the most influential people in recent history. Fans will discover not only how Jackie Robinson became one of the most amazing athletes in baseball, but just as importantly, how they can learn from many of his life choices and experiences.
