In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. The Observer's Book of Firearms - Observer's Book No. 75. The book was published in just this single printing, with a single jacket design. With the printer's code: 2701.278 which I believe indicates that the book was printed in Feb 1978. With 119 black and white photographs and 9 line drawings. ***Very good in dark-green textured boards with white titles to the spine and front board. The covers are quite clean with just some light rubbing to the edges in places. Head and tail of spine slightly creased, otherwise no bumps, creases or tears. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Page block fore-edge has a patch of darkening due to handling over the years. Internally the book is near fine, with just some light marks to the endpapers. No previous ownership inscriptions or other annotations. No creases or tears. No cracking to the binding. Spine tight. ***In a very good colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has been price-clipped by the publisher, with a new £1.80 net F. Warne price-sticker to the front flap. The dustwrapper is complete without any loss, but with some rubbing and creasing at the extremities, commensurate with age and handling. There is a vertical crease to the spine - otherwise no serious creases or tears. No chips or loss. There is overall light browning to the mainly white dustwrapper. Very slight fading to the red titles on the spine. ***147mm x 95mm. 192 pages including an Appendix, Bibliography and Index at the back of the book. ***'This profusely illustrated book traces the history and the development of the gun, from the most primitive hand-held cannon introduced some six hundred years ago, to the sophisticated prototypes under trial today, which may be the antecedents of the next generations of firearms. Between these two extremes lies an enormous variety of guns, ancient and modern, from all parts of the world, many of which are available to collectors and to shooting enthusiasts. A detailed account is given of the introduction and use of each type and class of gun. Particular emphasis has been given to varieties of guns not commonly encountered, and seldom described or illustrated elsewhere. The first part of this book describes how a collection of guns and other related objects may be built up, and an account is given of the care and restoration of firearms. Directions in which the collector may research his own material are described.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***A 1978 first and only printing, in very good original condition. Whilst this title in the Observer's books series is not all that uncommon, many of the books were handled by children and consequently show a lot of wear and tear. They can prove to be quite hard to track down now in nice condition in the original dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
